HiBar Ltd has developed a novel patented concept for a flood defence system that will protect individual houses by installing a self raising barrier surrounding the property perimeter.

With the increase in global warming leading to the rise in water levels coupled with more houses being built on flood plains, it is inevitable that more houses will be subjected to flooding in the coming years. Most insurance companies were refusing to insure property located in vulnerable high risk flood areas after 2007 unless they had installed flood protection measures, and many home owners were facing a worrying future. The Association of British Insurers has recently agreed to extend this deadline to 2011, but the worry for property owners remains.
